Meet the team - Heledd Williams, Quality Assurance Manager

Meet The Team Heledd (800 X 600 Px)

As we continue to introduce you to our wonderful team, next up we have someone that many of you will already be familiar with, Quality Assurance Manager, Heledd Williams.

Heledd started her social work career with us when she first qualified back in 2003 and although her career has taken her elsewhere, we were thrilled to welcome her back in 2022 with a wealth of knowledge under her belt.

We spoke with Heledd all about her career and took some time to ask some questions and get to know her better. You might be surprised by her interesting fact; trust us you will be impressed.

When did you start working for Calon?

I initially worked for Calon Cymru back in 2003 when I first qualified as a social worker. I was a Supervising social worker for the agency for 12 years. Since that time, I have worked for various other fostering services as a senior practitioner and team manager as well as a brief stint as an education safeguarding officer. I returned to Calon in June 2022 as an Operations Manager and in November 2023, I was appointed to the role of QA manager.

What made you want to work in foster care?

I love the variety of working within the fostering sector. Not only do I get to work with some incredibly inspirational young people, I also get to work with some amazing foster carers who selflessly open their homes and hearts to children in need of stability, care and love.

What do you do at Calon Cymru?

My job as Quality Assurance Manager is varied and I cover both West and East regions.  A big part of my job is supporting and supervising social workers undertaking a Form F assessment on prospective foster carers and sitting on the panel as Panel Advisor. I also ensure that we have up to date policies and procedures which ensure the agency runs smoothly and I am part of a team which ensures that Calon adheres to regulations and continually offers the highest quality service to foster cares and the young people we care for.

What part of your job do you like best?

I have worked within the fostering sector for 21 years now and without a doubt, the best part of my job is seeing the children that come into care grow up to be successful adults. Some will head off to University, some will take the big step to live independently, get a job or start their own family. I love it when they stay in touch and let us know how they’re getting on and it’s a privilege to have been part of their journey in care, even if it’s just for a short time.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself

I will be rowing 3000 miles across the Atlantic next year with three other women from Pembrokeshire.

Why would you recommend working with Calon Cymru Fostering?

I have spent fifteen years of my career working for Calon Cymru and I find the agency to be very supportive of its young people, its foster carers and its staff. As an agency, Calon is receptive, flexible and always strives to achieve the best outcome for young people.

If you could give advice to someone interested in becoming a foster carer, what would it be?

My advice to anyone interested in becoming a foster carer would be to pick up the phone and have a chat with us about what it may look like for you and your family. It’s not a decision to be made lightly but it will be one of the most rewarding thing you will ever do and with Calon, you will be supported every step of the way by dedicated staff and fellow foster carers.
